Furniture Reupholstery

This process can involve a complete strip down and re-build if necessary, using modern and traditional materials, or a facelift recovering the original fabric with new.

If a piece of furniture has a sound frame and is appreciated for its comfort and style, there is no need to replace it, instead have the item reupholstered. It can be significantly cheaper than replacing with new, especially for quality brands of furniture such as G-Plan, Ercol, Minty, and Parker Knoll, you already know that it fits your home and is comfortable.

It is more environmentally friendly than buying new and is far less effort as we come to you! Your furniture will not go to waste and end up in landfill. We offer a collection and delivery service so you will not have to lift a finger. Our network of leading fabric suppliers allows us to offer an extensive range of high quality and durable fabrics all tailor made to your requirements.

How the service works

  1. Decide on the specific job requirements.
  2. Choose a fabric. (You are welcome to visit our showroom and pick a fabric, or alternatively we can arrange for samples to be sent to you direct).
  3. Get a quote. This will be broken down into, labour costs, replacement materials, fabric costs + and any extras.
  4. Pay 50% deposit. Once this is received, we can book you in and arrange for your furniture to be collected at a mutual convenient time and date.
  5. On completion we will call to arrange delivery.

The process

Strip down

Step 1 Strip down

We will carefully strip down your furniture and remove all original fabric.
Frame inspection and repair

Step 2 Frame inspection and repair

The frame will be inspected and the necessary repairs will be carried out; joints will be tightened, dowelled, glued or screwed depending on what is required.
Springs and webbing

Step 3 Springs and webbing

Once we are happy with the frame, work will begin on the springs and webbing. Any springs and webbing that need replacing will be replaced.

Step 4 Rebuild

We will then begin to build the layers back up. Padding and stuffing is checked and replaced where required.
Cutting and sewing

Step 5 Cutting and sewing

Finally, with a frame and padding restored your chosen fabric is measured and cut and sewn to shape.

Step 6 Upholstery

The fabric outer shell is sewn together and fixed to the frame using either traditional or modern methods of upholstery depending on your preference.

Step 7 Cushions

Finally your chosen cushion interiors or original cushions are fitted into the cushion covers.

Absolutely excellent — picked up sofa on date agreed, returned within ten days and it really does look like a new piece of furniture. Polite, efficient service and a really professional product. Delighted.

“Old ottoman stripped back, reupholstered and recovered”

Excellent work for the second time — furniture is transformed. Great variety of fabric to choose from. Nice to work with. Timeliness/reliability issue was due to lockdown complications — other than that, all communication and reliability was good. Have already sent another piece to be re-done and recommended them to a family member.

“Upholstered an antique chaiselongue”

I inherited the chaiselongue from my mother who unfortunately made a few non authentic changes. Asnew called a few times to explain what was done to the item previously and to check how I wanted it restored. I wanted it back to the original style and am really pleased with the result. Great service all round from first enquiries to execution. I can highly recommend them!

“Chair re-upholstered”

Brilliant end result. There was a long waiting list, but once the chair was collected it only took a week. Very polite on the phone and in person. I found the assistance in picking a new fabric very useful and also nice delivery people. It’s expensive but the craftmanship is superb and the chair has sentimental value to me so certainly worth it.

“Two fifty year old Parker Knoll chairs refurbished and reupholstered”

I cannot commend the quality of work too highly — what they have done is little short of a work of art for detailed pattern-matching, painstaking effort to erase years of scratches and dents to the woodwork and astonishing improvement of comfort. I was also impressed by the clear commitment they showed to doing the best for the chairs as well as for me! From my first exploratory visit to the workshop to final delivery to my home, this was a good experience! I now have two beautiful chairs for less than the price of one.…

“Recovering a sofa”

I have used Asnew for many years for re upholstering. The quality of their work is excellent, and this latest service was no exception. Apart from the work itself, they are a pleasure to deal with, always prompt with collection and return of furniture, and friendly and helpful on the telephone.

“Re-upholster a 1960s sofa”

Asnew have done a perfect job on bringing this old sofa back for another generation. From choosing the fabric and all communications to collection and delivery they have been professional and pleasant to deal with. And now I have a fabulous new’ sofa, that was well worth the cost. Thank you Asnew — perhaps see you again!
